At the 5th edition of Timeline Awareness Initiative Lecture/Award, former Governor of Ogun State His excellency Otunba Gbenga Daniel and former Governor of Abia state His Excellency Dr Orji Uzor Kalu received lifetime achievement award respectively for impacting humanity.
Newsconnect reports that the Publisher of TimelineNG, Yusuf Adeoye in an interview at the event said all the awardees emerged on merit having painstakingly gone through their antecedents.
In his words, he said;
“Otunba Gbenga Daniel and Dr Orji Uzo Kalu who got lifetime achievement awards are successful individuals before coming into politics.
“They have employed thousands of people and they have employed millions of people indirectly. They actually deserved to be given lifetime achievement award. They have governed their states for 8 years, they are now in the senate and their business is still running”. He said
His excellency Otunba Gbenga Daniel who was physically on ground to receive his lifetime achievement award at Radisson Blu in Ikeja appreciated the publisher for the effort he has put in organising a great event. OGD in his remark on the informative topic ‘News Reporting & Sensationalism; Effect on National Security’ charged new media practitioners to put their best foot forward when reporting.
In his words, he said;
“We must first and foremost congratulate Mr Adeoye who is the initiator. I am particularly impressed with the amount of energy he has put into it, and of course talking about the New media which appears to be the issue today is quite apt.
“As I have posited, whereas it is indeed true that New media has erased all the boundaries, anybody can be an amateur journalist. However, that shouldn’t reduce the amount of professionalism and that is why I said there must be a degree of regulation, there must be sanctions if people cross the line.
“Basically the fact of the case is that the new media has come to stay, I appeal to all of us who want to pretend to be journalists to try to do things very well. By and large I think it is a good initiative, and i wish him well”. He said
The daughter of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu Nenya Kalu on behalf of her father received a lifetime achievement award at the event.
Honourable Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode, Member House of Assembly who represented the speaker Lagos State House of Assembly RT Honourable Mudashiru Obasa charged new media practitioners to be patriotic after receiving award on behalf of the speaker.
He said;
“Patriotism is also important in whatever you are doing. Do thorough investigation, what you spread out there, it will be difficult to take back. Nobody is trying to gag anybody”. He said.
The media aide to Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District Enitan Olukotun received an award on behalf of his principal Senator Tokunbo Abiru for his giant strides as a lawmaker in the National Assembly.
Other awardees include Honourable Babajimi Benson, Honourable Olayinka Kazeem Esho, Honourable Dele Phillips,Best man Nze Jumbo, Honourable Kehinde Oloyede Almaroof and many others.
