The Delta State Police Command has issued a statement refuting earlier reports of the murder of Joan Mrakpor, also known as Ada-Anioma, a former member of the House of Representatives, Delta State House of Assembly, and ex-commissioner.
Newsconnect had earlier published how her remains was found having quoted TheWill Newspapers as source.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Bright Edafe said the news of Mrakpor’s murder is false. He confirmed to TheWill that while she was indeed abducted from her church premises in Asaba last Tuesday, her current status remains unknown. During the abduction, two police aides attached to Mrakpor were tragically killed.
The PPRO added that the kidnappers have not made any contact since Mrakpor’s abduction, leaving authorities and family members in a state of uncertainty.
The initial report of Mrakpor’s alleged murder had circulated widely, including to high-ranking state officials. Sources indicate that even Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had received similar intelligence, prompting him to authorise the deployment of security personnel to search areas along the River Niger in both Asaba and Onitsha. However, these efforts did not yield any results.
As the investigation continues, the Delta State Police Command urges the public to remain calm and report any information that might assist in locating Joan Mrakpor. The authorities are working diligently to ensure her safe return to her family.
