At the general monthly meeting of Community Development Committee CDC on the 27th of February 2024, incoming executives from various CDA’s in Ikorodu division were sensitized with requisite knowledge and information needed to confront community challenges as leaders.
The Chairman CDC Ikorodu Local Government Elder Ogunjimi opined that the training for new executives usually occur when there is dissolution of the house.
In an interview with our correspondence at the event, Ogunjimi talked about the essence of the training and the presence of Crime Prevention Partnership CPP, other organisations at the function.
He said;
“We are here for our monthly general meeting. We are also here today to do a leadership training for all our incoming executives from various CDAs.
“We normally have this training when there is a dissolution of the house. We are training the new executives so as to know what is expected of them as leaders in their respective communities.
“With this training, they will know their portfolio, and their responsibilities as community leaders. We normally invited guest speakers but this year, we have decided to let the experienced leaders amongst us to impact knowledge on the new executives.
“The CPP are here to sensitise us about what they do. Some of us are already their members. We invited CPP, Ikeja Electric to this training to sensitise our members.
The Coordinator CPP Ikorodu Adekunle Lamikanra said CPP is just about 3 years old, however the objective of the organisation is to create awareness about anti-cultism law of Lagos State.
In an interview at the event, he said;
“We want them to be aware of what is in there, the implications or otherwise of the anti cultism law.
“We believe once you are aware of a law guiding your behaviour, you will know how to run away from trouble.
“It is 21 years imprisonment. Some landlords who harbour cultists can forfeit their property”. He said .
The CDC Chairman of Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA Adelakun Abayomi in a separate interview at the event corroborated the CPP’s coordinator. He said;
“We are here to propagate the news that cultism is a devilish thing and it should be eradicated among our youths.
“I am also a member of Crime Prevention Partnership. We are not here to arrest anybody, we are here to bring out these boys out of cultism by being reformed.
“We also do not want them from being discriminated by the society”. He said
