At the 25th Founders Day celebration of Lagos State University College of Medicine in Ikeja, founding fathers which include Dr Jidi Idris, Makanjuaola, Barrister Tokunbo Wahab, Professor David Anthony Oke, Chairperson LASUCOM Court of Governors Juliana were honoured for their respective contributions to the growth of the college 25 years after.

Newsconnect reports that among other things, the approach Dr Jide Idris a former Commissioner for Health in Lagos state for four administrative terms to arrest Ebola virus in 2014 earned him the award. Barrister Tokunbo Wahab’s antecedents also to LASUCOM as Special adviser and present strides as commissioner for environment earned him the award.

Newsconnect reports that the Chairperson court of Governors Juliana Lawson dedicated her award to the court of Governors. Her interventions over the years on sickle cell patients among other things earned her the award.

The Lagos State Commissioner for health, Professor Akin Abayomi in his goodwill message at the event said;

“while we have produced over 3000 health care practitioners considering the international benchmark, let us do more

“We have over 10,000 traditional medicine practitioner. Every Nigerian is either seeing a traditional or non-orthodox health practitioners.

“Our data shows that we have 7 million patient contact in 2022.

“As you all know we learn our trade by being apprentices. As 7 million patient in Lagos per year, we have a huge apprenticeship to produce thousand of practitioners in Lagos alone.

“We are in crisis, if you have not realised the depth of the crisis, then you are not living in Lagos. We have Nigeria health care practitioners in diaspora with the desire to make an impact.

The Lagos State Commissioner on Tertiary Education Tolano Sule said “the transmission of our colleges of Education to University was deliberate. He said LASUCOM has achieved so much in 25 years.

“It requires a lot of money to train medical students. Governor Sanwo-Olu will continue to mobilise resources to this effect.

“I want to congratulate all academic and non academic staffs of LASUCOM on what you have done with this short period of time”. He said
