In a landmark event that underscored his administration’s commitment to education and economic empowerment, the Executive Chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Dr. Bayo Adefuye, on Thursday, 21st August 2025, officially flagged off the distribution of 200 free General Certificate Examination (GCE) forms to eligible students and the disbursement of ₦250,000 each to 200 residents of Yaba LCDA under the Mega Empowerment Initiative.

The dual program, which is part of the administration’s “Yaba Tuntun Agenda,” was held amidst wide jubilation from students, artisans, traders, widows, and community stakeholders.

Education as a Gateway to the Future

While addressing the gathering, Hon. Dr. Adefuye described education as “the greatest equalizer and the key to unlocking a brighter future.” He emphasized that many brilliant students are often denied access to higher education due to financial constraints, stressing that no child’s dream should be cut short simply because of the inability to afford examination forms.

He encouraged the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously, remain disciplined, and envision themselves as future leaders, doctors, engineers, lawyers, and innovators who will make Yaba and Lagos State proud.

Empowerment for Sustainable Livelihoods

On the ₦250,000 empowerment cash support initiative, Hon. Dr.Bayo Adefuye noted that empowerment is not charity but a deliberate effort to strengthen families, boost small businesses, and grow the local economy.

The Chairman charged beneficiaries to use the funds wisely, highlighting that the initiative was designed to serve as seed capital for growth, not as mere consumption funds.

Balancing Education and Empowerment

Speaking further, the Executive Chairman said the combination of education and empowerment reflects the council’s holistic approach to governance.

Hon.Dr. Bayo Adefuye expressed gratitude to councillors, management staff, education officers, and community leaders who contributed to the success of the initiative. He reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to rolling out people centered programs in education, health, empowerment, and infrastructure development.

The “Yaba Tuntun Agenda” is the policy thrust of Hon. Dr. Bayo Adefuye’s administration, focusing on people oriented development through quality education, healthcare access, empowerment programs, and infrastructural renewal. The agenda aims to build a new Yaba defined by hope, inclusiveness, and prosperity for all residents.
