In a bid to improve Eye health, The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in collaboration with Seplat Energy Joint Ventures (JV) have embarked on a medical outreach program targeted at providing free Visual Care Services to Support Visually Impared Individuals in Ohaji, Egbema Community, Imo State.

As part of its Corporate   Social Responsibility (CSR)commitment, the JV launched the “Eye Can See” outreach, which  aimed at bridging   the healthcare gap in host communities, has dispensed  10,000+ reading glasses, performed 639 essential eye surgeries which included cataract removals.

Since its inception in 2017, the “Eye Can See” program has transformed the lives of over 20,000 individuals, serving as a beacon of hope in the eastern asset of NNPC Upstream Investments.

The  Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), Bala Wunti, represented by  JV Asset B  Manager, Dr Obinna Otuu

emphasized the initiative’ alignment with NNPC Ltd’s Corporate Mission to Improve and enhance the well-being of Nigerians.

He explained further  that  the Corporation has  broader vision which goes  beyond provision of  energy but it  commitment to making positive impact on Nigerian communities.

 “We are a partner in progress, dedicated to making sustainable contributions to the communities that support us,” he  said 

In addition , Wunti acknowledged  that  beyond providing medical care, the initiative educates participants on healthy lifestyle habits to prevent hypertension, diabetes, and other conditions leading to permanent vision loss. 

He also  expressed  his utmost gratitude to the local government, beneficiaries, and NNPC Ltd’s partners, haven  noted  that the partnership  with Seplat, the National Oil Company has  created a Milestone for a better future where  easy accessibility  essential health services is possible for it’s residents 

“This project is not just about restoring vision; it is about giving people hope and the opportunity to lead fulfilling lives. This year’s outreach in Ohaji/Egbema is a testament to the ongoing commitment of NNPC Ltd. and Seplat to improve the quality of life in their host communities,” he confirmed.

Through strategic collaborations like the “Eye Can See” program, NNPC and Seplat JV demonstrate their unwavering dedication to Nigeria’s growth and prosperity.

The partnership  also aims at  widening  the   scope of  its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives,  which will extend the  life-transforming services to an even wider audience across Nigeria.
