Veteran journalist and publisher, Ojo-Isaac Olusola Michael, the Editor-in-Chief of SB E-News, SB Events Magazine, and Efficiency Magazine, as well as the founder of the Efficiency Award for Excellence (EAE), has reported a brutal assault by staff of K-Quare Multi-Dimensional Ltd.
The incident reportedly occurred during the 20th Anniversary Celebration Party of Citadel Oasis held at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Thursday, December 5, 2024. According to Mr. Ojo-isaac, he was humiliated and beaten by two bouncers from K-Square security firm, who claimed they were prefeting at the high-profile event.
Mr. Isaac disclosed that the assault left him with multiple injuries, including an affected left eye, a broken right knee, and scars all over his body due to the use of blunt objects allegedly wielded by the bouncers. He stated that he is currently unable to walk properly due to the injuries sustained during the attack.
In addition to the physical injuries, Mr. Michael reported the loss of his Samsung Galaxy A25 5G phone, valued at ₦454,855, along with his wallet, which contained his ID card, ATM cards, and other vital documents.
The incident has been reported to the Barbeach Police Station on Amodu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, has shown interest in the case, and investigations are reportedly underway to identify and arrest the bouncers involved in the incident.
Mr. Isaac also confirmed that he has informed the celebrant, Dr. Kennedy Okonkwo, the MD/CEO of Citadel Oasis Ltd., who has expressed his interest in ensuring the matter is thoroughly investigated and justice is served.
The incident has sparked outrage among journalists and media practitioners, who have condemned the attack on their colleague and demanded swift action to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book. The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) is expected to release a formal statement addressing the incident and calling for better protection for media professionals during public events.
