Benue State has again experienced another devastating incident of cult violence as suspected cultists killed four people, including a soldier, at North Bank, Makurdi, on Friday night.
In recent weeks, the North Bank area has experienced an uptick in violent conflicts between rival cult groups..
According to Eyewitness report, two of the young men killed on Friday night were not cultists but victims of their violence .
Verifying the occurrence , Chairman of the Vigilante Group known as Operation Shara in the North Bank, Nura Umar, revealed that four people, including a soldier, were killed in separate attacks on Thursday and Friday night.
“These cultists wreaked havoc yesterday night (Friday) around 10-11pm; a soldier and two boys were killed”.
“It happened around the BIPC. Those boys (deceased) were not cultists. Those who shot them were suspected to be cultists”.he added.
Umar Stressed that, “Then, a day before yesterday (Thursday), one person (a suspected cultist) who was sleeping in his house was killed.”
Spokesperson for the state police command, Catherine Anene who confirmed that cult activities at North Bank led to the death of one civilian , revealed that additional security forces have been deployed to the area
“Yes, there were cult activities in North Bank, but I am aware of one person killed, a young civilian.
“Operatives have been deployed in the area.” Mrs Catherine added.
