A tragic incident occurred along Ojo iyana iba Road, Lagos State where soldiers from Ojo Cantonment Barracks led by an unidentified officer, stabbed a Police officer, Saka Ganiyu to death, following a traffic dispute, questioning the military’s compliance to Road Traffic Rules and Regulations.
According to report, the soldier dressed in mufti who was seen driving an unauthorized Volkswagen T4 bus against traffic flow, was stopped by policemen on duty at Volks Bus Stop. This led to a heated argument, prompting the soldier to summon reinforcements from Ojo Cantonment Barracks, who launched a counterattack on the policemen.
Following this incident, officer Ganiyu who suffered severe injuries, was hastily rushed to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for immediate medical treatment.
Sadly, despite medical efforts, Inspector Saka Ganiyu tragically died from his injuries at the hospital. His remains were then moved to the hospital’s morgue for further examination and preservation.
Investigation revealed that the Commander of 9 Brigade, Ikeja Cantonment was informed and the soldier responsible has arrested and detented at their base .
However, the military authorities haven’t disclosed the soldier’s identity, as thorough investigation is being carried out by the Murder Investigative unit to guarantee accountability and justice for the deceased officer.
Incidentally, there have been recurring reports of soldiers allegedly clashing with and fatally shooting policemen while on duty in Lagos State.
