Today, we celebrate a significant milestone in our nation’s history – 26 years of democracy. As we commemorate this day, we’re reminded of the sacrifices made by our heroes past, whose tireless efforts have brought us to where we are today. With faith in our collective potential, we’re confident that Nigeria will continue to thrive and never falter.

In his inspiring message this morning, Honourable Engr Setonji David drew our attention to the Nigeria National Anthem, “Nigeria We Hail Thee.” Specifically, he highlighted the second stanza, which beautifully encapsulates the values we should strive for as a nation. The lines “Our flag shall be a symbol / That truth and justice reign” serve as a poignant reminder of our responsibility to uphold these principles in all our endeavors. By doing so, we can ensure that our nation remains a beacon of hope and prosperity for all.

Setonji’s message also emphasized the importance of leaving a legacy that our children can be proud of. The phrase “To hand on to our children / A banner without stain” is a powerful metaphor that underscores our duty to act with integrity and honor. As citizens of Nigeria, we have a collective responsibility to do our best, so that future generations can look back on our contributions with pride. By striving for excellence and upholding the values enshrined in our national symbols, we can create a brighter future for ourselves and for those who come after us.

As we celebrate this special day, let’s reaffirm our commitment to building a nation that truly reflects our highest aspirations – equally believing in the governance of our President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. May we continue to draw inspiration from our national anthem and strive to make Nigeria a better place for all. Happy Democracy Day to the good people of Badagry Constituency 2 and to all Nigerians!
