In a bid to enhance Accountability and transparency, the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) has launched a live policy tracker aimed at monitoring the progress of economic reform , initiated by the group and presented to the government.

This revelation was made at the ongoing 30th Nigerian Economic Summit, themed, “Collaborative Action for Growth Competitiveness and stability” in Abuja on Monday.

The  Chairman , Nigerian Economic Summit Group,Olaniyi Yusuf  revealed  that the policy tracking system is  aimed at tracking progress on previous recommendations and national outcomes . 

 The NESG has established a live policy tracker to promote  accountability, ensuring past summit recommendations are being implemented and are in alignment with national objectives “.

Olaniyi also  highlighted that cultural norms, inadequate reproductive health services, and economic disparities continue to undermine gender equality, thwarting efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal.

He further noted that while Sustainable Development Goals has  driven progress in gender equality, intercessional challenges  which includes; cultural norms, reproductive health access restrictions, and economic inequalities continue to hinder efforts toward achieving gender parity.

Olaniyi , while referring to  the 2023 Summit, stated that  it’s  primary goal centered on  stimulating economic growth, sustainable investment and  revitalizing national dignity.

“The government has made notable strides in promoting economic stability, as evident in the creation of the Presidential Economic Coordination Council and the Economic Management Emergency Task Force, and the recent approval of economic stabilization bills on fiscal policy and tax reforms is an evidence  of the it’s dedication to enhancing fiscal sustainability and fostering a resilient economy “. He added

Meanwhile, The NSDG Chairman  gave his opinion regarding gender equality and the role of women in building a sustainable economy, he said”To achieve rapid economic growth, it’s crucial to balance population growth and actively involve women in the economy ,across all states, ensuring their deliberate inclusion and participation”.

The event had in attendance the Vice President  of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, elder statesmen and other dignitaries.
