The fate of Ikorodu’s citizens is taking a positive turn as the Ikorodu Students Association successfully launched its inaugural healthcare program. Under the leadership of Comrade Toba Dusumu, this groundbreaking health expo not only addressed the health needs of the community but also marked a new era of service for the association.

Proudly supported by Ikorodu General Hospital, the event drew widespread praise from participants, who described it as a highly impactful initiative. The expo brought together distinguished guest speakers, including Dr. Oluwatoni Adeyemi, Senior Special Advisor to the Governor of Lagos State on Health; Honorable Wasiu Adesina (represented by Hon. Afini AbdulLateef); and Tope K. Hassan, Medical Director and CEO of Ikorodu General Hospital, alongside other notable dignitaries.

Dr. Oluwatoni Adeyemi, in her keynote address, commended the students for their efforts and urged them to extend future programs beyond hospitals to marketplaces and other public spaces to reach more people. She assured the students of her continued support, stating, “I will ensure that whenever you plan initiatives like this, assistance will be provided.”

Hon. Afini AbdulLateef, representing Hon. Wasiu Adesina, also praised the students, emphasizing the local government’s commitment to supporting the association’s efforts. “The Ikorodu Local Government Council is ready to assist whenever you need us,” he affirmed.

In his speech, Dr. Tope K. Hassan expressed deep appreciation for the association’s initiative. “Keep doing what you are doing—you are absolutely on the right track. The sky will not be your limit,” he encouraged. He further pledged continued support for the students, referencing past collaborations with similar student bodies such as the Imota Students Association.

The event featured a range of health talks, covering essential topics such as nutrition, cardiovascular health, mental health, and the dangers of drug abuse. Medical professionals offered attendees valuable insights into maintaining good health and preventing illness.

Additionally, free medical checkups and medications were provided to participants, ensuring immediate access to healthcare services. The program’s structure and the quality of care delivered left many attendees expressing hope for more frequent initiatives of this kind.
