In the last 36 Years, the impediment that had prevented Igbogbo Kingdom, a community in Ikorodu from having its own permanent land and venue to host activities like Igbogbo day was eventually surmounted, as the the Traditional Ruler of Igbogbo Kingdom, HRM Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, in the presence of different stakeholders in the axis, journalists laid foundation for first Ultra-Modern Igbogbo Civic center.
Newsconnect reports that the facility is located at Wagbare in Offin/Oreta road, Igbogbo Ikorodu.
The Chairman of Igbogbo planning committee 2021-2024, Mr Titilope Balogun Andu in an interview with Newsconnect after the Press Conference of 2024 Igbogbo Day Celebration narrated why the theme was tagged ‘Tiwa n Tiwa’. He said;
“Tiwa n Tiwa is a Yoruba language that shows ownership.
“We have been renting halls for Igbogbo day in the last 36years, changing venue.
“This is our own land, this is where we are going to have our permanent building to celebrate Igbogbo day.
Towards promoting Culture and tourism in line with the THEMES Agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Titilayo said ;
“There is a day earmark for culture. We have a lot of cultural event that our people would display.
” It is a day most of our indigenes abroad love most and they invested in it. We are not shying away from that, it is another way of generating funds for the day. Through that we are encouraging and promoting the culture of the land” he said.
The President of Igbogbo Development Association (IDEA) Dr. Omotunde Ogunlaja, among other things in his welcome salvo said; “This Civic Centre has been a cherished vision of our forebears, a symbol of unity and progress for the Igbogbo Kingdom. Today, we turn that vision into reality with the foundation laying ceremony,” he stated.
Ogunlaja expressed gratitude to Tolaram group for donating 3 acres of land for community development projects having faced different challenges before their Intervention.
