Mustafa Aderemi Akeem

A key participant in the Pro-democracy movement in the 90’s Mustafa Aderemi Akeem has requested the intervention of local and international stakeholders to come to his rescue as his life and that of his family are seriously under threats.

Newsconnect gathered that Mustafa a dogged comrade who had been mobilizing and exposing corruption over three decades reached out to this medium to amplify the evidence of injury and threats he had received for being patriotic .

Mustafa, a prominent member of Senator Buruji Kashamu’s Omo Ilu Foundation, a political movement opposed to government corruption in Ogun State. His roles according to him was mobilization of people and a mandate to expose electoral manipulations.

He participated in the EndSARS protests against police brutality, where security operatives killed unarmed protesters.He claimed he had being on the watch by security operatives ever since.

In a telephone interview with Newsconnect correspondence while probing the evidence he presented, he said;

“They want to know who funded the protests. They want me to tell them the names of other activists, else i will not leave here alive.

“They blindfolded me, beat me with batons, and detained me in an underground cell for five days. My kidnappers wished to know:

“I was only let go after international pressure, but with this warning: “Next time, we’ll bury you”. They asserted

” The threats did not stop. The regime went after my family. March 19, 2025, My home was broken into, my wife was beaten, and a miscarriage requiring emergency surgery was induced (medical report attached).

“The attackers left a note when they departed: Tell your husband to stop his useless activism.

“My name is on a watchlist of the Nigerian police, military, and ruling party thugs as Activists critical of the government “disappear”** or die in staged accidents.

” There is no safe relocation within Nigeria—the state tracks dissidents nationally.

If sent back, i will be imprisoned, tortured, or murdered.

“I am not just requesting safety—I am begging for the right to live. My offense? Speaking out for democracy.
