Child Protection Network (CPN), Lagos Chapter in collaboration with The Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme (RoLAC), have intensified efforts to establish Child Rights Implementation Committee in all local government areas in Lagos State.
Newsconnect reports that this initiative aims to support the state government’s efforts across various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to ensure the safety, protection, and welfare of children. The re-inauguration and training commenced in Ikorodu and Lagos Island local government areas.
The Coordinator of CPN Lagos, Ronke Oyelakin appreciated the Rule of Law and Anti-corruption Programme funded by European Union and managed by International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance for their support in achieving this project for the resuscitation of the existing 5 LGCRIC and training of stakeholders for pre- inauguration of new ones in the year 2025.
In her words, she said:
“It is also very important to know that child rights are human rights. They are non-negotiable and universal. But in too many places today children’s rights are being misunderstood, disregarded or even denied and attacked.
“We as a network say to all state and non- state actors that “Upholding children’s rights is the compass to a better world – today, tomorrow and into the future.”
“This World Children’s Day, we all enjoined to listen to the future and that is by listening to children we can fulfil their right to self-expression, understand their ideas for a better world and include their priorities in our actions today.
“As the Child Right Law of Lagos State made provisions for the Local Government Child’s Rights Implementation Committee to work at the grassroots to ensure every child in their community is protected, safe and free from all forms of abuse.
“What does the future hold for the world’s children?
As we look to 2050, we face a choice.
“As a country, we can’t continue on a path that is risking a future where millions of children are left behind but we can choose a different course – one where every child survives, thrives and meets their full potential with every resources available at their disposal which is for the four pillars of child’s rights – this includes Survivor, Development, Protection and Participation.
“A better world for all children is possible.
“Let’s Prevent and Respond”.
