Following the damage caused to the Itunmoja road by the heavy downpour last week, which sparked widespread condemnation from residents and stakeholders both online and offline, the Local Government has taken decisive action. A day after the incident, the Executive Chairman, Leader of the House, and other team members of the Local Government visited the site to assess the situation.
This swift response demonstrated the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns of its citizens. In a bid to understand the cause of the damage and find a lasting solution, the Legislative Arm, led by Hon. Shotomiwa Wasiu Babatunde, at its first sitting of the 7th Legislative house, summoned both the Contractor and the Council Engineer, who appeared before the House earlier today, 12th of August.
The purpose of the meeting was to hold them accountable for the road project and provide explanations for the damage caused.
During the session, the Legislators asked probing questions about the procedure and materials used in the road construction. Engr Adesanya, representing ADMOTAQ, the Contractor, stated that the project is still ongoing and attributed the damage to issues with the drainage system.
He explained that corrections could only be made after the Contractor handling the drainage addresses the problems.Council Engineer Engr Seyi Oladapo corroborated Engr Adesanya’s statement, confirming that both the drainage and road construction are still in progress.
He identified the Contractors responsible for the drainage as Bufadel and Musbatop. This clarification provided insight into the complexities of the project and the need for a comprehensive solution.
After careful consideration, the House passed a resolution directing both Contractors to return to the site immediately and resume work. Hon. Shotomiwa Wasiu Babatunde, the Council Leader, announced that a Committee would be constituted to oversee the project, obtain all relevant documents, and ensure regular reports from the Committee.
This move is expected to ensure that the project is completed to a high standard and that the concerns of the residents are addressed. The meeting was attended by other members of the House, including Hon.
