Through the partnership with SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria, a non governmental organization Child Life Line (CLL) advocates ‘Alternative Care’ for Street/Slum Connected Children across three LGAs in Lagos State.
Newsconnect reports that in its ongoing mission to protect and empower Street/Slum Connected Children, CLL recently organized a community sensitization training for stakeholders and community members.
The event, held in Lagos, focused on raising awareness about the importance of family-based alternative care as a sustainable solution for children who are at risk or already living on the streets and losing parental care and control.

The training provided parents, guardians, community leaders, and service providers with practical knowledge on child protection, positive parenting, and the role of community collaboration in safeguarding children.
Discussions emphasized the urgent need to strengthen family structures, support parental responsibilities, and reduce the reliance on institutional care for children in crisis.

Speaking at the event, Child Life Line’s Program Manager, Yemi Aileru, highlighted that the organization has, through the Alternative Care Project funded by SOS Children’s Villages, Nigeria has rescued and supported numerous children across three local government areas in Lagos State by placing them in safe family environments, enrolling them in schools, and providing parents and guardians with psychosocial and livelihood support.
“Every child deserves to grow up in a safe and loving family environment. Our Alternative Care Project is not just about removing children from the streets; it’s about restoring dignity, rebuilding families, and creating opportunities for long-term stability,” the Program Manager said.

The sensitization training also created a platform for open dialogue, where parents and stakeholders shared experiences and expressed their commitment to supporting children in the community. Child Life Line reaffirmed its readiness to continue partnering with families, government agencies, and civil society to ensure that children not only survive but thrive.
As part of the event, participants were encouraged to act as advocates for child protection in their respective communities, ensuring that the message of alternative care and child rights spreads beyond the training hall.

Child Life Line’s efforts continue to demonstrate that with the right support systems in place, street/slum connected children can be given a second chance at life through love, care, and the stability of a family.
