The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Sunday demanded “immediate answers” from President Bola Tinubu on his 2023 campaign pledge to deliver 24-hour electricity within four years.

In a statement signed by interim spokesperson Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party said the administration has instead left Nigerians “in deeper darkness.”

Key claims

  • Electricity tariffs up 240 % since May 2023, yet the national grid has collapsed 12 times.
  • Over 90 million citizens still have no power; many others receive only 4–6 hours daily under the Band A–E regime.
  • Roughly 50 million rural families remain “completely off-grid,” with no connection at all.
“Twenty-six months in, there is no reform, no roadmap, no urgency,” Abdullahi said, adding that Nigerians “are still buying fuel to run generators and paying to charge phones at kiosks.”

Citing Tinubu’s own campaign words — “If I don’t give you electricity, don’t vote for me” — the ADC warned that voters “intend to grant that wish in 2027.”
