Human rights lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi has regained his freedom after meeting his bail conditions. He was released on Tuesday morning.
Farotimi, who is now on his way to his Lagos home, was arrested earlier in the month for allegedly defaming Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD).
Politician and activist Omoyele Sowore, confirmed his release. Sowore wrote on X: “I am pleased to report that Dele Farotimi is no longer being held in the prison facilities of Ekiti State and is now returning home to Lagos.
The struggle continues!” A few days ago, a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ado Ekiti granted Farotimi bail at N30 million, with two sureties, one of whom must be a property owner; the submission of Farotimi’s passport; and a prohibition on Farotimi granting media interviews once released.
