The Senator Representing Lagos East Senatorial District Mikhail Adetokunbo Abiru has appealed to his constituents and Nigerians to support the tax reform initiative embarked by the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. According to him, it is meant to bring succour as it is pro-people and pro-growth reforms.
Newsconnect reports that Abiru didn’t just share 8kg bag of rice, and 8kg bag of Garri in a combo package for ten thousand households in Lagos East Senatorial District, he equally sensitised them on tax reforms, urged them to support President Bola Tinubu overall reforms.
In an interview with journalists at his Constituency office in Ikorodu on the 16th of December 2024, Abiru said;
“We believe that this is the little we can do to support ourselves, support our constituents and also support the initiative of our President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“We know that some of the bold and necessary reforms the President has embarked upon has immediate challenge on the people, and this is one of the ways to also bring some succour to some of our constituents.
“We are also doing this in support of his own leadership as well. So people can see that the political office holders are sensitive to the cause of everyone.
“We are also very committed to the reforms of the President and the current leadership the country. These reforms will bring greatness to the country. The reforms are meant to address some of the past decisions of last government that were not really much inline with how economy should evolve.
“In other to reset it, is what the reforms is all about.
“Some people have talked about the tax reforms. As we welcome consultation that are required, it is also important that we study the reforms properly to understand it. It is a pro-people, pro-growth, Initiatives.
“It is very sensitive to people’s yearnings. It has provided succour to people within the low income range. People earning 800,000 and below will get additional two hundred thousand to support rent, accomodation.
“People within that bracket are exempt from paying tax. Vat too has been done with a lot of human face. It has given exemptions to issues around education, Agriculture, Transportation and health.
“All of those items are also tax exempt. You can see that this is a pro-people government and pro people Initiative. It has also made provisions for small medium enterprises in order for them to flourish.
“As we all know the MSMEs they form almost about 60 to 65 percent of employment in the country. In order to encourage them, the tax reforms has also increased. The band that exempt certain businesses from tax payment, i.e if you are within the band of 50 million turnover, and below, you are exempt from tax.
“Such initiative are meant to spur growth, and also make every environment in Nigeria to be very competitive.
“I implore the people to support reform Initiative of our President, and the course of leadership that we have. It is an opportunity and it is a life time opportunity that we must take advantage of”. He said
