Having received their respective awards at the 2024 Community Day Celebration, Lagos State Government has charged the awardees not to rest on their oars because their dedication serves as a beacon of inspiration to others.

Newsconnect reports that the Deputy Governor of Lagos State Dr Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat who represented the Governor His Excellency Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, said this to encourage Community Development Associations to embark on more self development project towards complementing governments effort.

The theme of year 2024 Community Day Celebration was dubbed “Stronger Together: Building a Resilient Community”.

Hamzat urged myriads of CDAs who are yet to benefit from the award despite their giant strides not to give up, that they are all winners.

‘In the race of life, their is always a first prize, second prize, Third prize and more.


“As a government of our people, we have prioritise strengthening the capacity of individuals, communities, businesses and institutions to not only survive but also adapt to social stresses.

“Through innovative policies, targeted Intervention and programs, we are mitigating the impact of global and local economic challenges on Lagosians.

“Some of these interventions though not limited is Eko cares, the program that we design to cushion the effect of economic reforms, the 25 percent reduction in BRT transportation fares to ease community cost. Ounje Eko Sunday market offering citizens a 25 percent discount on essential food items. 35 percent wage increase for all civil servants.

“As we celebrate today, I urge Lagosians that are represented to continue supporting our shared vision. To the awardees recognized today, I offered my sincere congratulations.

“Your dedication serves as a beacon of inspiration to others. I encourage everyone to continue undertaken self help projects, that will complement Government efforts in building our communities.

“Every community that we build will change lives, will impact the sustainability of our children, students”. He said.

The host of the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development Dr
Nurudeen Yekinni Lanre Agbaje in his welcome address appreciated the continuous support and commitment of community development association as critical stakeholders to socioeconomic development of Lagos state. He also appreciated the governor for being a pragmatic governor.

Agbaje reeled out the categories of award and interventions cDAs embarked on before qualifying.

The CDA Chairman Harmony Estate Ifako Ijaiye Local government Pastor Opajobi Samuel, in an interview after receiving a space bus on behalf of the CDA said;

“We deserve it. Over two years ago in Harmony Estate, we have been working together to ensure this day comes to pass, and we thank God for today.

“Some of the projects we embarked on include expansion of the road, solar energy, feeding and so many….We drill a borehole for the community to enjoy it.

“Lagos state government should keep it up. We know they didn’t do partial for this, we didn’t even know we will get to this stage, but we thank God. We want them to keep it up by being neutral as they have been”. He said.
