In a decisive move to address school bullying, the Federal Government suspended 13 students from Federal Government College, Enugu State, for six weeks due to their involvement in a bullying incidents.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Director of Press and Public Relations, Folashade Boriowo, made this announcement in Abuja on Wednesday.
She revealed that the ministry had received a report which shed light on a bullying incident at the school, sparking serious concerns about the environment’s safety and discipline.
According to the report, ”The findings of the ministry, the incident involved the gang assault of an SS1 student (a day student) by a group of students on November 7″
“The incident came to light showing the circulation of a disturbing video on social media platforms’.
Reacting to this ,The Federal Ministry of Education promptly formed a disciplinary committee to probe the incident.
“Based on the findings, all the 13 students involved have been placed on a six-week suspension pending the report of the investigative committee.” Mrs Folashade added.
The minister mandated the School Based Management Committee to work closely with security agencies, examining all aspects, including possible affiliations with external groups.
He noted that the college has taken swift action to strengthen security, engaging law enforcement agents and conducting a comprehensive review of existing safety measures.
“Additionally, counselling and rehabilitation support will be provided to address all forms of problems while promoting their reintegration into a positive school environment,” she said.
Following the circulation of a disturbing viral video,The Minister Of Education,Dr. Tunji Alausa suspended students involved in bullying, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to a safe learning environment.
He stressed the ministry’s unwaivering dedication to ensuring federal schools nationwide provide a secure and supportive environment for learning.
