Former Vice Chairman and Acting State Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Elder Abraham Amah has secured a decisive victory in the party’s chairman election. With an impressive 1,264 votes, he surpassed his closest rival, Olugu Kalu, who garnered 395 votes.

The party congress in Umuahia witnessed a competitive election, with notable contenders such as James Okpara, Godwin Okoro, Kingsley Imaga, Olugu Kalu Ogba, and Chief Ukwu Rocks Emma contesting for key positions.

Following his victory, Amah expressed sincere gratitude to party stakeholders and delegates, vowing to prioritize reconciliation and robust engagement to foster unity within the party.

“We will re-echo the ideas and vision of the founding fathers and as well, bring back those that left the party, to make it stronger. This is a new dawn for Abia PDP”, he said.

The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who oversaw the election as Returning Officer, acknowledged the delegates’ peaceful behavior, which contributed significantly to the exercise’s seamless execution.

“I congratulated the winners, what happened here today shows that we are ready to take back power from the people we lent it to come 2027”.

In the same veil, Senator Austin Akobundu, representing Abia Central Senatorial District, applauded the  delegates for their peaceful conduct, highlighting the Congress’s alignment with the party’s ideals and its transparent process.

He underscored the need for winners to prioritize unity and cooperation, recognizing that although elections produce single victors, effective leadership demands inclusive representation.

“The winner wins for everybody “, he added.

The state former Commissioner For Information, Okiyi Kalu, implored the new executives to make reconciliation their utmost priority, fostering an environment where former members feel encouraged to return.

“The future of the party starts from the emergence of the new leaders, adding that though people left because they were aggrieved, the new leaders of the party should pursue with all vigour, the new mandate of filling the PDP family.”he added
