Osun State First Lady, Mrs Titilola Adeleke , has admonished the residents of the state to leverage on free health screening facilitated by the Governor’s Forum in Collaboration with World Health Organization (WHO)  for early diabetic and hypertension diagnosis.

She gave this admonishment  In Osogbo, Osun State on Monday,during the commencement ‘Project 10 Million,’ a national health campaign aimed at screening 10 million Nigerians for hypertension and diabetes.

At the event, where she also underwent screening, the Osun First Lady highlighted the initiative’s crucial role in tackling rising hypertension and diabetes cases in the country.

She revealed that these two conditions are responsible for approximately 27% of annual mortality in Nigeria.

Project 10 Million is a critical health initiative aimed at addressing the growing impact of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), particularly hypertension and diabetes.

“These diseases pose a serious threat to the well-being of our communities, contributing to 27% of all annual deaths in Nigeria.

Seventeen percent of Nigerians between the ages of 30 and 70 are likely to die from these diseases. There is an urgent need for action to combat these diseases in our society.

Project 10 million is a health based initiative targeted at tackling the increasing rate of hypertension, diabetes and other Non-communicable Diseases.

“These diseases pose a serious threat to the well-being of our communities, contributing to 27% of all annual deaths in Nigeria.

“Today, I am pleased to announce the “Know Your Numbers, Control Your Numbers” campaign, an initiative led by Health Commissioners from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory and approved by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum,” she  stated.

In the same veil, The governor’s wife revealed that the screening program  will run from October 28 to November 3, targeted at approximately 10 million Nigerians .

She also beckoned on residents, “Take advantage of this great opportunity to be examined for hypertension and diabetes. By knowing your numbers, you are taking a significant step towards managing your health. Together, we can make a difference and create a better future for all.”

The Osun State Government, through Health Commissioner Jola Akinola, reiterated its dedication to strengthening public health frameworks, mirroring the administration’s overarching goal of exceptional resident healthcare.

According to Akinola, the campaign’s main objectives encompass boosting public awareness of Non-Communicable Diseases, promoting prevention strategies and delivering immediate counseling and medical care.
