The Ministry of Health in Collaboration with Yemanja Cancer Care Initiative, is set to commence a free mammogram screening for Female Public servants within the Age of 40 and above through the month of October to November.
This Initiative tagged “Pink October”, is an annual Mammogram Campaign program carried out across the globe to create rapid awareness about breast cancer and the need to fight it especially at the early stage.
According to the Permanent Secretary, Public Health Service, Doctor Olusegun Ogboye, ” The fight against breast cancer requires galvanized action and to this end, the Ministry of Health in collaboration with one of its Partners, “Yemanja Cancer Care Initiative ” will be providing free mammogram screening for Female Public servants from age 40 for the month of October 2024″.
He however described this screening program as an effective tool to detect and tackle breast cancer at inception .
” Mammograms are the most effective screening tools for detecting breast cancer at it’s earliest stage often before symptoms appear..Women aged 40 and above are at higher risk for breast cancer and early detection can significantly reduce the risk of advanced disease and improve survival rate.
The dates slated for this screening are October 9, 10, 23, 24, 30, 31, November 6 and 7 at the Folarin Coker Staff clinic, the secretariat, Alausa,Ikeja.
Meanwhile,Dr. Olusegun expressed his utmost gratitude to individuals who will help spread awareness about the free mammogram program, enabling all eligible female public servants to benefit from it.
