The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), founded by the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has partnered with the National Population Commission (NPC) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to promote birth registration in the country.

This collaboration will launch the UNICEF/RHI Commemorative Birth Certificate for 2024, marking a significant stride in providing Nigerian children with their foundational identity.

NPC Chairman, Hon Nasir Isa Kwarra, announced this partnership after meeting with development partners at the First Lady’s office in Abuja. He highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating, “This commemorative event, scheduled for August 29, 2024, will mark a major leap in the government’s effort to provide Nigerian children with their first foundational identity.”

Chief Child Protection Officer at UNICEF, Ibrahim Sesay, emphasized the significance of this launch in closing the existing gaps in birth registration and promoting data-driven development plans for children in Nigeria.

He noted, “We have been falling short in terms of reaching our obligations. The Office of the First Lady, through RHI, is now being used to ensure every child’s birth in Nigeria gets accelerated birth registration starting August 29.”
