In order to establish a secure and tranquil environment for the inhabitants of Kosofe Local Government, the Executive Chairman, Barr. Moyosore Adedoyin Ogunlewe convened a meeting on peace and security with key stakeholders in the community regarding the anticipated public demonstration at the Council Secretariat today Tuesday, 30th July 2024.
In his keynote address,the Council Chairman urged residents,particularly youth of Kosofe to abstain from engaging in violent protests or any criminal activity while he emphasized on the diligent efforts being made by President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rectify past grievances. Barr. Ogunlewe implored all Stakeholders present at meeting to prioritize security awareness within their respective communities, underscoring the repercussions of the 2020 Endsars protest.
The Area Commander, Area H Command, Ojota ACP Odutana Rotimi, sternly cautioned against congregating on the streets while reiterating on the legality of peaceful protests and imploring would be demonstrators to peacefully move to designated venue to voice their concerns before dispersing.
In the same vain, The Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman, Mr. Babatunde who spoke on behalf of CDAs implored parents to pacify their children not to participate in the proposed protest bearing in mind dangers associated with such act.
The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ogbooro Gbenga, the Chairman, League of Imams, Alhaji Oludegun Representatives Market Men and Women, Arewa Community, National Youth Council of Nigeria,other Youth Representatives, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and other notable stakeholders all expressed their resolute support against the impending protest while appealing for calm and to embrace dialogue to get Nigeria into the desired state.
Also in attendance at the meeting were the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon.Fatai Gbadebo, who gave the vote of thanks,the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Oluloro Idowu, Legislative Members, Supervisors, the Council Manager Olanrewaju Olalere Fatai, Management Members, Religious Leaders, Youth Representatives, Arewa Group, Igbo Community amongst others.
