The attention of the Chairman of Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area, Otunba Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, has been drawn to a recent article by an online medium concerning traffic disruptions at Agric Bus Stop.
We understand and share the frustration of residents and commuters. The free flow of traffic is fundamental to public well-being and economic vitality. This administration recognizes that what affects the road affects everyone.
Long before this publication, our Administration identified this issue as a priority within our development agenda. A comprehensive and permanent solution has been designed.
We have already begun the process of implementing this plan and are committed to seeing it through until the corridor is fully cleared. Our approach is deliberate. We are mindful that many individuals trading in the area are members of our community whose livelihoods depend on this commerce.
A sudden, forceful eviction would cause significant economic hardship for these families. Therefore, we are proceeding with a phased implementation. This method allows us to establish a lasting solution while mitigating negative impacts on our local citizens.
The contractors’ slow progress on the Agric-Isawo road prevents the immediate relocation of traders to the Oliwo-Odikan Stalls. Until the road is complete and fully accessible without any restrictions to the public, the LCDA cannot enforce the move.
Transfer will be required once the project is handed over and non-compliant traders would be treated as a Common Enemy.
Moreso, the Council Chairman has giving the Road construction company 8 days ultimatum to provide space for the marketers and transporters since their work is beyond 85% completion.
Be assured that this council remains opposed to all forms of street hawking and the obstruction of major roads with wares.
Our ultimate goal is to ensure Ikorodu West continues to be a safe and pleasant place for everyone to live, work, and conduct business.
