The Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) Programme is commemorated annually every September to intensify awareness, educate the public, and support survivors of sexual and gender-based crimes. This global initiative seeks not only to highlight the devastating effects of such violations but also to ensure that perpetrators are held accountable through appropriate legal and institutional channels.
This year, the Executive Chairman, Barr. Moyosore Adedoyin Ogunlewe, has joined voices across the world in reaffirming a strong commitment to ending Sexual and Gender-Based Violence. In his message to the people of Kosofe, he urged survivors, witnesses, and concerned citizens to report cases of violence without fear of stigmatisation. He emphasized that silence only protects perpetrators while speaking out ensures justice and protection. Reports can be made directly by calling 08000-333-333, a dedicated line for immediate response.
Barr. Moyosore Ogunlewe reiterated that the initiative is not merely an annual event but a call to action aimed at:
Raising sustainable awareness on the dangers and consequences of SGBV,strengthening safety nets and support systems for survivors,
promoting a culture of zero tolerance towards violence in all its forms while reducing and ultimately preventing the reoccurrence of gender-based crimes within communities.
He further encouraged the community to stand in solidarity with survivors, ensuring that no one suffers in silence, and to foster an environment where dignity, respect, and justice prevail.
Together, as a society, we must boldly declare zero tolerance to “Sexual and Gender-Based Violence.”
