In line with strict compliance for environmental sustainability, five offenders — Akaa Isaac, Abiodun Lawal, Mwughoro Precious, Joshua Oloruntoba, and Ibrahim Atiku — were apprehended at the Shapati area of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government for illegal dumping of waste, in violation of Section 115(4) of the Environmental Management Protection Law.

The culprits were charged before the Magistrate Court, Magbon-Alade, where the charges were read to them by the presiding judge. The offenders all pleaded guilty.
The court, therefore, delivered the following sentences:

  1. The offenders shall clean up the area where they were caught dumping refuse.
  2. Each offender shall pay a fine of ₦15,000.
  3. Offenders must register with a licensed waste management authority within 48 hours.
  4. In the event that any offender fails to pay the fine, he/she shall serve a one-month jail term.

This judgment underscores the resolve of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government under the leadership of Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa to enforce its zero-tolerance stance on indiscriminate waste disposal, while encouraging residents to embrace lawful and hygienic waste management practices.
