MAGGI, the popular seasoning brand from Nestlé Nigeria, has celebrated the 2025 August Meeting by empowering women across the South-East with nutrition education, cultural recognition, and community support.
This year’s edition, held throughout August, reached over 8,100 women in 18 locations across five states. The initiative combined cultural celebrations with culinary demonstrations, nutrition tips, and conversations on family well-being and economic empowerment.
Tradition Meets Empowerment
The August Meeting is a long-standing Igbo tradition that brings women together, both at home and abroad, to deliberate on family and community development. By partnering with this cultural platform, MAGGI said it is deepening its connection with women and reinforcing its role in nurturing families.
Speaking at the event, Funmi Osineye, MAGGI Category Manager at Nestlé Nigeria, explained:
”MAGGI has supported the August Meeting for several years, but this celebration comes at a time when women empowerment, food security, and community resilience are more critical than ever. Beyond our products, this partnership allows us to provide women with fresh nutrition insights, new skills, and entrepreneurial support that strengthen families and uplift communities. This edition is not just about continuity, it is about honoring heritage and recognizing the women who shape our society every day.”
Honouring Women Leaders
This year, outstanding women leaders and rising stars in the community were recognised with special awards for their contributions to family and social development.
Victoria Uwadoka, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Lead at Nestlé Nigeria, added:
“We are proud to support this cherished custom that celebrates the contributions that women make to the socio-economic development of their communities. Partnering with the August Meeting allows us to honor women for the difference they make every day, while demonstrating our commitment to building stronger families and stronger communities.”
Nollywood Stars Add Glamour
The celebration also welcomed Nollywood actresses Ngozi Nwosu, Blessing Obasi, and Uzo Osimkpa, who brought vibrancy and cultural flavour to the event. Their presence resonated with participants, reflecting the creativity and strength of Igbo women.
Reflecting on her involvement, Uzo Osimkpa said: “Growing up, I witnessed the significance of the August Meeting in Igbo culture. For my mother, it wasn’t just a tradition; it was a duty. Every year, she traveled back home to join other women in shaping community progress. To be a part of Maggi August Meeting is more than participation; it is a privilege, a way to honor my mother’s legacy, and a testament to the enduring strength of Igbo womanhood.”
Impact on Communities
For many women, this year’s edition highlighted the importance of tradition alongside modern empowerment. One participant noted:
“I cannot remember the last time the values and importance of our beloved August Meeting received this much visibility. MAGGI has amplified our tradition, making it even bigger by adding training, recognition, and empowerment. Truly, this has been a remarkable August Meeting.”
Sustaining Culture Through Generations
Through initiatives like the August Meeting, MAGGI continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting women as custodians of cultural heritage while providing them with tools to improve family well-being and community resilience.
