The Deputy Chairman of the Constitutional Review Committee and Chairman House committee on Defense, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency Honourable Babajimi Adegoke Benson has intimated Nigerians the importance of the move to review the 1999 constitution.

Newsconnect reports that Benson posited at the South West Stakeholders Zonal Public Hearing at Watercress in Lagos yeaterday that the people outside the government is greater than people in government, hence it is important to carry the people along when making laws affecting their lives.

“They elected us for oversights and make laws. The constitutional provisions we have is a bit weak, so there is another proposal to amend it and make it fit for purpose.

“The day we stop learning is the day we die. Today we have heard from Nigerians, far and wide and they have brought very credible, critical suggestion of how we can move Nigeria with its huge potential forward.

“In a couple of days time, we are going to have a central public hearing in Abuja, after that we go to the parliament, we vote and we send to various states house of assembly for approvals.

“Politics is about lobbying but Lagos State deserves a special status. It is only in Nigeria that a former capital has been left with liabilities. I believe Lagos State needs to attain a pride of place in Nigeria, it needs to be supported adequately because Lagos contributes a lot to the GDP of Nigeria”. He said
