The Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom, Oba AbdulFatai Aromire Oyegbemi, has dethroned six high-ranking chiefs for attending the Labour Party’s campaign flag-off without his knowledge or approval.
The chiefs were said to have participated in the campaign event held in the Apapa area of Lagos State, allegedly impersonating the monarch and breaching palace protocol in the process.

Those affected by the disciplinary action include Chief Lateef Ojora (Baale of Alaba Oro), Chief Saliu Biliamin (Baale of Alafia Dodoro), Chief Taiwo Hassan (Baale of Oke Ira), Chief Idris Ojora (Baale of Abule Kere), Chief Hakeem Oseni (Baale of Mosafejo Amukoko), and Chief Sule Balogun (Balogun of Abule Kere).

The decision followed a palace meeting convened on Monday, during which Oba Oyegbemi condemned their actions as a clear violation of their duties as traditional title holders.

According to Punch Newspaper, the monarch expressed deep disappointment and emphasized the gravity of the chiefs’ misconduct.

Following the outcome of this event, which unfolded without his prior knowledge, Kabiyesi Ojora summoned the Bales, the Balogun, and the Ojora Council to his ancient palace for clarification,” the statement read.

“He made it clear that their actions were not only inappropriate but also dishonorable. No chief is permitted to act or speak on behalf of the throne without express permission. Their primary role is to represent the Kabiyesi and safeguard the values and traditions of the Ojora Kingdom.”

Oba Oyegbemi’s decision to strip the six chiefs of their titles, the statement continued, was a deliberate step to restore discipline and maintain order within the traditional council.

Despite the controversy, the monarch used the opportunity to commend the current government’s developmental efforts across Ojora land, pledging his continued support for policies that drive growth and prosperity within the kingdom.

He also stressed the importance of transparency, unity, and proper conduct among traditional leaders, especially in political matters, reminding all chiefs of the weight of the responsibility they carry.

The dethronement has stirred conversations across local circles, highlighting the delicate balance between traditional authority and political engagement in the build-up to the July 12 local government elections in Lagos.
