The Honourable Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, has announced that three exceptional Nigerian designers will represent the country at the Saudi International Handicrafts Week (Banan) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, this November.‎‎This milestone is the result of the Honourable Minister’s visionary Creative Collection Initiative, launched during the Fashion Focus Stakeholder Engagement in June 2025.

Under her directive, her Special Assistant on Animation, Fashion, Arts and Crafts, Amira Idris Ibrahim, who also led the Fashion Focus Stakeholder Engagement, coordinated every aspect of this initiative with remarkable professionalism, foresight, and dedication.

Her exceptional execution ensured that Nigerian designers were meticulously prepared and positioned to make a strong impact, reflecting the Ministry’s commitment to excellence and the promotion of the country’s creative talent on the global stage.

Her leadership and unwavering support were instrumental in translating the Honourable Minister’s vision into a reality that will shine on the international stage.‎‎

Honourable Minister Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa emphasized that Nigeria’s presence in Riyadh goes beyond showcasing fashion. It is about telling the Nigerian story through creativity, heritage, and innovation.

She explained that the designers embody the beauty of the nation’s traditions while reflecting the modern spirit of resilience and ingenuity.‎‎“Nigeria’s participation at the Saudi International Handicrafts Week is a celebration of our art, culture, tourism, and creative economy. Our designers carry the stories of our heritage and the innovation of our people.

In line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises economic growth, job creation, youth empowerment, and cultural diplomacy, this Ministry is determined to open global doors for Nigerian creatives, deepen cultural exchange, and expand opportunities that elevate Nigeria’s image on the world stage.

”‎‎The Honourable Minister expressed deep appreciation to the Saudi Arabian government and the organisers of Handicrafts Week for creating a platform where cultures converge, exchange, and thrive. She noted that such partnerships strengthen international ties and foster economic and cultural opportunities that benefit both nations.

‎‎The three Nigerian designers chosen to participate will showcase the richness of Nigerian artistry in unique and compelling ways. Ohiole Lagos, founded by Idowu Ohiole, is redefining African luxury through elegant leatherwork that demonstrates Nigeria’s craftsmanship.

Locheness, the creation of Lilian Oche, celebrates bold beadwork and handcrafted accessories that merge culture with individuality. Arantiwa Clothing, led by Fatima Hassan, brings indigenous fabrics such as Adire, Aso Oke, and Ankara to life in fresh, contemporary forms that resonate with global audiences.‎‎

These designers will represent Nigeria not only as fashion creators but as cultural ambassadors, telling a story of heritage, identity, and pride. Their participation highlights the growing recognition that Nigeria’s creative economy is one of its most valuable national assets.‎‎The Saudi International Handicrafts Week is a premier global gathering of artisans and designers.

For Nigeria, this is an opportunity to present creativity, diversity, and innovation with elegance and pride. The country’s presence demonstrates how Nigerian talent, tradition, and modernity combine to produce art that is both authentic and globally relevant.‎‎As Nigeria steps onto the global stage in Riyadh this November, the Ministry reaffirms its commitment to cultural diplomacy and to positioning the country as a leader in art, culture, tourism, and the creative economy.
